Street racing cause of crash that left 4 injured at Old River Rd: BPD

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Street racing was the cause of a multi-vehicle crash that left three adults and one juvenile injured on Old River Road on Monday evening, according to Bakersfield police.

BPD investigators said two never model Chevrolet Camaros, one white and one black, were street racing at the intersection of Old River Road and White Lane just before 7 p.m. before the collision happened.

The white Camaro crashed with multiple vehicles stopped at a red light at White Lane. The black Camaro drove over the raised center median of Old River Road and fled eastbound on White Lane.

Witnesses at the scene described the black Camaro as possibly having front end or undercarriage damage. The driver remains at large, according to police.

Three adults and a minor, who were not part of the illegal street race, suffered minor injuries during the collision at the intersection. The four people were seen being taken into ambulances at the scene.

2 sentenced in deadly street racing crash

The 19-year-old driver of the white Camaro, remained at the scene after the initial collision and cooperated with BPD’s investigation. Meylin Rosi Barrera, 19, was taken to a hospital for medical treatment, police said.

After being medically cleared at the hospital, Barrera was arrested and booked into the Lerdo jail for participating in an illegal speed contest, reckless driving and child endangerment, according to police. Barrera was not listed as in custody on Tuesday afternoon.

The 3200 block of Old River Road is a north and south road with three lanes of travel in each direction where the speed limit is 55 miles per hour.
