Motorcyclist in Wisconsin fighting for his life after major collision on State Highway 70, other driver arrested

WINTER, Wis. (WFRV) – A 57-year-old motorcyclist in Wisconsin suffered life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to a nearby hospital after a serious crash on State Highway 70.

According to the Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a 911 call about a two-vehicle crash involving a sedan and a motorcycle on Sunday shortly after 2:00 p.m. on State Highway 70 near Koeppler Road in the township of Winter.

Upon arrival, eyewitnesses say a sedan, operated by 39-year-old Erin M. Jones from Ojibwa, was pulled over on the north shoulder of the westbound lane, attempting to turn around.

While attempting to turn around, Jones turned into the path of a motorcycle driven by 57-year-old Daniel J. Barber from Hayward. Barber smashed into the driver’s side door of the sedan, causing severe damage to both vehicles.

Barber suffered life-threatening injuries and was flown to a hospital in Duluth, Minnesota, for emergency medical attention. The extent of his injuries is unknown at this time, according to the Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office.

As for Jones, she was uninjured but was arrested for knowingly operating a motor vehicle while revoked – causing great bodily harm and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The crash remains under investigation by the Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office and the Wisconsin State Patrol. No additional details were provided.
