Mother goes missing while rescuing kids in San Joaquin River

(FOX40.COM) — The search continues for a woman who went missing along the San Joaquin River while attempting to rescue her kids in Stanislaus County on Thursday, according to the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office.

In a press release on Friday, the sheriff’s identified the missing woman as 30-year-old Brenda Duran.

Duran is said to have been watching her kids play in the river near Fisherman’s Bend at Crows Landing, when her 11-year-old daughter began to struggle to keep her head above the water.

After jumping into the water to help her daughter, Duran also began struggling. Her 14-year-old son then jumped in to help his mother and sister.

The teen was able to get his sister out of the water, but Duran then went missing after the two children returned to the shore, according to the sheriff’s office.

Once they were back on the beach both kids were given medical care by respond first responders.

At first light on Friday morning, the sheriff’s office launched their drone team and later deployed a diver to begin his search.
