Morgan County elections: Frost beats six-term incumbent Stisher for county commission

MORGAN COUNTY, Ala (WHNT) — Unofficial results show that Matthew Frost has defeated six-term County Commissioner Don Stisher in the runoff race for County Commissioner District 3.

Unofficial results show Frost with 2,886 votes or 75 percent of the vote and Stisher with 948 votes or about 25 percent.

The two faced each other in the runoff for the Republican nomination for the seat on the Morgan County Commission. No Democrats are running for the seat.

Last month on March 5, the two faced off in the Republican primary for the seat along with Gary Livingston. At that time, Stisher received 5,673 votes and Frost had 4,802 votes but neither received the margin needed to avoid a runoff.

Frost has worked as a mechanical operator for the county for over a decade, while Stisher has represented District 3 for 24 years.

During the campaign, both candidates leveraged their knowledge and experience in dealing with infrastructure issues in District Three.

Frost told News 19 that he made up the ground in the election by having a dedicated group of family and friends who worked hard to get out the vote. He thanked all of his supporters.

“Thank you to everyone who supported me throughout the race,” he said in a statement. “My intention to run a clean campaign was satisfied today. This has always been a dream of mine and I look forward to serving my district and county.”

When asked by News 19’s Ben Hoover how he felt on election night, Frost replied with “cold” saying his supporter had just thrown him into a pool to celebrate.
