Modesto’s Jeremy Renner back on screen after snowplow accident. When, where to watch

For the first time since his near-fatal accident, Modesto native Jeremy Renner’s streaming series is about to return.

“Mayor of Kingston” premieres on Paramount+ on Sunday, June 2.

But it wasn’t easy getting back to work on season three of the show, Renner, 53, has said.

According to a story on the CBS News website, he said the early going on the set was “very fragile and touch and go.”

He also said he found returning to the show helped him cope.

The Oscar-nominated actor and Beyer High graduate stars as Mike McLusky in the series about a powerful family in a town dependent on the prison system.

“Renner said his personal experiences have influenced his portrayal of McLusky, adding a layer of vulnerability to the tough character,” according to the CBS story.

“I feel like I’ve made him more delicate because I think I am,” he said.

“This evolution aligns with the show’s narrative, where McLusky faces significant personal losses,” the CBS News story said. “Renner noted that the parallels between his real life and McLusky’s storylines helped him bring authenticity to the role.”

Daughter Ava “was my driving force,” Renner said in the story about his long recovery. “I wasn’t focused on my pain. I wasn’t focused on anything that I was going through. I had to do it and heal my daughter. I relieved myself of whatever I had to go through.”

He said he also wanted to heal for his mother and nephew. His nephew was with him during the accident.

Renner, also known for playing superhero Hawkeye in the Marvel universe, released music early this year that chronicles his recovery from the 2023 New Year’s Day snowplow accident that left him critically injured.

“You know, music is very healing. It’s very emotional, and it’s very unifying,” he said in the CBS story. He’s also working on a book about his recovery.

According to a previous story in The Bee, Renner was with family on his property near Reno when he went to clear his nephew’s vehicle from the snow after a storm. He had gotten out of the snowplow, which began rolling. When Renner tried to get back in to stop it, he was pulled under one of its treads and crushed.
