Mobile to open pools, splash pads later this month
MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — The City of Mobile will be opening its swimming pools, splash pads and aquatic programs on May 27, according to a city release.
The Mobile Parks and Recreation Department is launching a new water safety program in partnership with the Sigma Gamma Rho sorority. The swimming course, called Swim 1922, is offered nationwide to help children safely swim in pools, beaches, lakes, rivers, and wherever there is water.

The city splash pads all have safe, rubberized surfaces with fountain and spray features. They are also wheelchair accessible.
Proper swimwear is required while using the splash pad, and infants and toddlers must wear a swim diaper.
Mobile’s splash pads will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Sept. 28, 2024.

There are four fully staffed pools open six days a week during the summer. They’ll be open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Aug. 3, 2024.

MPRD lifeguards are tested and trained for at least 26.5 hours to ensure visitors’ safety.

The City of Mobile will also offer swimming lessons for children from June 4 to July 25 through a partnership with the Port City Marlins swim team.
Level I lessons include the basics of swimming such as floating, kicking, breathing and basic stroke development. Level II works on those techniques with additional strokes, breathing techniques and more advanced goals.
