Midway honored for 50 years as chevy dealer

Apr. 19—ORWELL — Fifty years of service to the community was honored on Thursday afternoon when Chevrolet representatives presented Midway Chevrolet with an award for 50 years as a car dealership.

The history of the family business goes back even further in the Scott family. Brothers Jack and Jim Scott are Midway's co-owners.

"My grandfather started this place in 1934," Jack Scott said.

He said the business was originally a gas station that offered car repairs.

"I grew up here," Scott said.

He said the business started selling Pontiac cars in 1936.

"We got Chevrolet in 1974," Scott said of the start of the relationship that has lasted so long.

He said the dealership presently employees 30 people, including three generations of his own family.

Scott said it is sometimes a challenge to have family all working at the same business, but they have been able to make it work.

The business has been involved in helping many organizations in the area. An annual car show to assist South Central Ambulance is scheduled for Aug. 3.

Two Chevrolet representatives were on site to celebrate the occasion. Chevrolet zone manager Matt Berkowtiz and Chevrolet district sales manager Pete Finzel assisted in the celebration.

Finzel presented the Scott family with a 50-year award.

"It is not common," he said of the dealership in the same family for half a century.

Pizza and other goodies were available for the participants and employees of the dealership.

Jim Scott said the celebration was exciting.

"I've been here all my life. it is the only thing I have known. [I'm] glad we can still be a part of the community," he said.

Jack Scott said the Internet has changed his business as well as many aspects of society. He said people used to drive to the dealership from long distances seeking a specific car.

"Now they just use the Internet," he said.

Jack Scott said the dealership tries to provide a variety of services being in a small community.
