Michigan man accused of stabbing family member over ‘placement of eggs’ at Easter event

SPRINGFIELD, Mich. (WOOD) – A man accused of stabbing a family member during a fight before an Easter egg hunt at a Michigan elementary school was arrested Sunday, deputies say.

The man, from Battle Creek, was helping to set up the Easter egg hunt when he and a woman “got into a disagreement about the placement of eggs,” according to a news release from the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office. One of the man’s family members became involved in the argument, during which the man pulled a knife and cut this person “multiple times,” the release said.

No one else was injured during the incident, deputies said, and no children had yet arrived for the event.

Responding deputies arrived to find the 36-year-old suspect still holding the knife, which he ultimately dropped at the urging of law enforcement officials, the release indicated. He was arrested and expected to face charges of aggravated assault.

Medical assistance was provided on-scene to the injured party, who suffered “minor lacerations,” according to the sheriff’s office.
