MEMPHIS – While it is disappointing that Penny Hardaway and the Tigers are not in this year’s NCAA Tournament, that doesn’t mean hoop fans in Memphis won’t be able to watch March Madness… up close and personal.

FedExForum and Beale Street, waiting in anticipation for the start of March Madness on Friday.

Eight teams in town including one that Tiger fans really don’t like.

The Houston Cougars, who had many a battle with the Tigers over the years, including the last time Houston was inside the Forum. Last march, when Jamal Shead hit this buzzer beater to stun the Tigers.

Shead is now hoping Memphis fans will let bygones be bygones.

“Familiar territory, but we weren’t really welcome there while we were in the American. So hopefully the Memphis fans start to like us a little bit more,” Shead said. “We haven’t seen them in a year. I hope the Memphis fans can kind of come to our side a little bit.”

All eight teams will hold an open practice Thursday. Admission is free.
