McDonald County takes green initiative with new recycling facility

PINEVILLE, Mo. — A first in McDonald County opened today.

It’s been in the works for the past five years, according to officials with McDonald County Litter Control.

A ribbon cutting took place for Pineville’s new recycling center on Wednesday.

It’s located directly behind the McDonald County Circuit Courts Building, and according to officials, has the resources to recycle almost anything.

“Just about any metal that you wanna drop off and get rid of, that’s perfectly fine to bring down here. Electronics, we will take, appliances as well, with the metal,” said Dane Paulson, McDonald County Litter Control Project Manager.

Like flat-screen TVs – appliances like washers and dryers – not to mention thousands of pounds of cardboard.

Officials with McDonald County Litter Control used to have to take products to recycling centers in either Neosho or Bella Vista – but are now able to keep resources and funds in the county.

“It’s surreal – it’ll be a lot different, it’ll be easier for people to drop stuff off here, it will be easier for us because we are going to try and centralize and get people to bring all of their things to us, instead of us running trailers all of the time,” said Paulson.

“If you can keep it local, that is the way to do it. Whether you are in McDonald County or anywhere else, if you can keep it here, that is what counts,” said John Newby, President of McDonald Chamber of Commerce.

Residents can drop off recyclables at the center – at any time of the day.

Official office hours will be announced in the coming weeks.
