Mass shooting at Ellis Square in Savannah prompts FBI and local police to launch tip line

The Atlanta FBI headquarters opened a digital media tip line Monday seeking pictures and video taken around the Ellis Square shooting Saturday that injured 11 people.

The tip line was created in conjunction with Savannah Police.

A spokesperson from the FBI said nobody has been arrested in connection with the case. The Savannah Police department has yet to name any suspects.

The shooting at Ellis Square, a busy tourist spot, happened Saturday around 11:55. Police said an argument between two women led to gunfire from multiple sources. Emergency responders treated all the victims, taking some to a nearby hospital.

Ten of the victims were shot, while the other was injured by glass. As of Tuesday, none of the victims were reported to have died.

The Ellis Square shooting was the latest of four in Savannah this past weekend.

The city had two shootings Friday, the first injuring a male victim who drove himself to a hospital and the second killing a juvenile male, according to Savannah Police.

About two hours before the Ellis Square shooting, an adult victim was shot and killed. A juvenile male victim was found injured one block away.

Savannah Chief of Police Lenny Gunther spoke about the shootings at a press conference Sunday.

“We will do everything we can,” he said. “We will work tirelessly. We will be relentless to hold you accountable.”

Statistics from Savannah Police indicate the number of aggravated assaults with a gun is growing in the city.

Shootings increased by 53 incidents from 2021 to 2022 and 30 incidents from 2022 to 2023. Savannah’s population has also been climbing in recent years, with the 2022 Census Bureau counting its population at just under 150,000 people.
