Martinelli’s issues recall for apple juice lot

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Martinelli’s apple juice is recalling some of its products, according to the company.

S. Martinelli & Company issued the recall on April 16 for a single lot of apple juice: a one liter (33.8 fl. oz.) bottle with a “Best By” date of “09MAR2026” or “10MAR2026” on the front of the bottle above the label.

“The product was shipped between March 13, 2023, and September 27, 2023, with the majority of the product shipped before July 28, 2023,” the company said in a press release.

According to the S. Martinelli & Company, the State of Maryland found samples from one production lot of one-liter Martinelli’s apple juice glass bottles that were tested above the Food and Drug Administration’s guidance action level for inorganic arsenic in apple juice.

The FDA, which in June issued guidance lowering the industry action level for inorganic arsenic in apple juice from 23 parts per billion to 10 parts per billion, states that elevated levels of inorganic arsenic can pose a health hazard to young children.

Test results revealed that S. Martinelli & Company’s March 2023 affected production lot showed 1.6 parts per billion higher than the new FDA guidance for inorganic arsenic, according to the company.

S. Martinelli & Company confirmed there have been no reports of any illnesses or complaints at this time.

“Please immediately discontinue distributing and selling the identified lot of the one-liter
bottles of Martinelli’s Apple Juice by examining your inventory. If any of this lot remains
in your stores, please remove it from your shelves,” the company said.
