‘Marginal risk’ for severe weather Saturday in mid-Michigan

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — The Storm Prediction Center has placed mid-Michigan in a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for Severe Weather this Saturday, as a warm and active weather pattern moves into the area.

A warm front, associated with a large storm system to the southwest, will move into mid-Michigan Friday evening, bringing the chance for showers and isolated non-severe thunderstorms overnight.

This initial round of rain will exit late Saturday morning, with some possible clearing in the afternoon. The system will pump warm and humid air into mid-Michigan on Saturday.

The question is whether or not we will be able to warm up enough to develop pop-up thunderstorms on Saturday afternoon and early evening. With the warm and unstable air that will be available in the atmosphere, any storms that do develop will have a favorable environment in place and could potentially turn severe.

If storms do develop, all kinds of severe weather will be possible for the area.

All available data suggests storms are unlikely to form. Keep an eye to the sky just in case and your StormTracker 6 Weather App handy just in case. At this point though, outdoor plans Saturday afternoon look ok.
