March 23 election: East Baton Rouge Parish voters will select new Baker mayor, police chief

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — What will residents in East Baton Rouge Parish Parish vote on in the upcoming election? They will choose the next mayor, police chief and councilmembers in Baker.

Charles Vincent, Democrat, won the District 1 council seat in Baker unopposed. Cedric Murphy took the District 5 seat unopposed when competitor Crodell Veal withdrew; both are Democrats.

Across Louisiana, voters will participate in the Presidential Preference Primary and municipal and local primary elections. Early voting ran from Saturday, March 9, through Saturday, March 16.

On election day, polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The Municipal General Election in Louisiana will be on Saturday, April 27. If any local races go to a runoff, they’ll be determined on that date.
