MANITOWOC — Lincoln High School evacuated students Wednesday afternoon after a ventilation motor malfunctioned in the Tech Ed department, causing smoke but no flames.

The district said in a news release that at around 12:40 p.m. Wednesday, Lincoln administrators initiated its Safety Response Protocol after a large amount of smoke in the Tech Ed department triggered fire alarms.

During the evacuation, students were guided to a safe location and sent home for the day.

Because of pre-ACT testing, very few students were in the building and no one was injured, the district said.

Manitowoc Fire Rescue Department confirmed the source of the smoke was a malfunctioning ventilation motor and no flames were present.

Fire officials deemed the entire school building safe for learning starting Thursday, the district said.
