Man suffers second-degree burns in house fire on Bedford Ave in Lynchburg

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR)– The Lynchburg Fire Department says a man suffered second-degree burns during a residential fire on Bedford Avenue on Saturday, April 20.

According to the fire department, crews were dispatched at 7:15 a.m. on a report of a structure fire on the 1300 block of Bedford Avenue. Firefighters arrived and found flames coming out the back side of a two-story home and immediately began an exterior attack while searching inside for any possible victims.

Firefighters found one person who was inside that reportedly suffered second-degree burns as he escaped the home. He was taken to Lynchburg General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The fire was controlled in about ten minutes and the fire department spent more than an hour on the scene looking for any extensions. During their search, Bedford Fire reported a home behind the residence was burned and also suffered heat damage due to the flames.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. WFXR News will update this story as further information is released.
