Columbus police are searching for a man who fired a pellet gun and struck a student during morning recess at a Columbus City elementary school, a school district spokesperson said.

The shooting happened Thursday during morning recess at John Burroughs Elementary School on Columbus' West Side.

The unidentified man fired an airsoft pellet gun at the playground, striking a child with a plastic pellet, the spokesperson said. The school brought the children back inside the building, and a school nurse evaluated the student and determined he was not seriously hurt, the spokesperson said.
