Man sentenced to 11 years for distributing meth in Amherst County

AMHERST COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — A man has been sentenced to more than a decade in prison for distributing drugs in Amherst County.

The Amherst County Sheriff’s Office says on April 8, Travis Scott Desmond was sentenced to 11 years for the distribution of methamphetamine. Upon his release, Desmond will be on supervised probation for two years. After his release, he will be placed on unsupervised probation for 38 years.

Desmond was arrested on Feb. 16, 2023, after authorities discovered a significant amount of methamphetamine during a search warrant, at his home.

The Amherst County Sheriff’s Office says Desmond is still awaiting trial and could face additional time for probation violations in Amherst County and Lynchburg.

“This arrest and sentencing was achieved with the cooperation of multiple agencies to include the Amherst County Sheriff’s Office, Amherst County Commonwealth Attorney’s Office, Campbell County Sheriff’s Office, Appomattox County Sheriff’s Office, and the Virginia State Police,” posted the Amherst County Sheriff’s Office on social media.
