Man killed girlfriend, drove around Miami-Dade with her body inside the car, cops say

A man killed his girlfriend and drove around town — with her dead body inside the car — before turning himself in to officers at a South Miami-Dade police station, according to investigators.

Alexander Roque eventually pulled up to Florida City’s city hall, 404 W. Palm Dr., on Saturday night where he surrendered to police — who found the woman’s corpse still in the vehicle. The police station is located within the city hall complex.

At around 11:15 p.m. Saturday, police responded to the city hall parking lot, where they located a white Hyundai Tucson, according to an arrest report. In the front passenger seat was the woman’s body; the firearm used to shoot her to death was on the driver’s side floor.

When contacted by police, the victim’s estranged husband said Roque called him and admitted to shooting and killing the woman in the car, the report states. Roque sent him a photo of the body inside the bloody vehicle.

They also spoke on a WhatsApp video call, which the estranged husband recorded and provided to detectives, the report says.

A cousin of Roque’s also told investigators that Roque sent him a photo of the body via WhatsApp after admitting to gunning down the woman while driving around the Florida City area, according to the report. The cousin had called 911 to report the woman’s death.

Miami-Dade police, which handles murder investigations in Florida City, said they couldn’t confirm what led to the woman’s death. Police have not identified the woman.

Roque, 48, was booked shortly after 9:45 a.m. Sunday into Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where he remained Monday, jail records show. He’s facing a second-degree murder charge.

Anyone with information about the killing should contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
