Man found asleep at wheel of truck at Victorville intersection, arrested for DUI

A suspected drunken driver was found asleep at the wheel of a pickup truck, which was stopped at a Victorville intersection and littered with beer bottles on Friday, authorities said.

The arrest took place shortly after 2:30 a.m. after deputies responded to a report of a pickup truck stopped in the middle of the intersection of Cherry Hill Drive and Hesperia Road, with two men apparently sleeping inside, San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department officials said.

"Deputies approached a 2021 Chevy Silverado with the engine running and several beer bottles inside the vehicle," the agency said in an written statement. Both the driver and a passenger, who were still asleep inside the truck, were arrested.

Jaime Rodriguez, 51, of Whittier, was booked on suspicion of DUI, according to sheriff's officials and county booking records. He was released with a citation. His passenger, a 37-year-old Whittier man, was booked on suspicion of public intoxication and also released with a citation, records show.
