North Carolina man falls to his death escaping gunshots at Myrtle Beach hotel

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — A North Carolina man fell six stories to his death from a downtown Myrtle Beach hotel early Sunday morning as he tried to escape gunfire, officials said.

Jorge Orellana, 27, died of “massive” upper body trauma just after 6 a.m. at the Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard said in an email.

Orellana of Hendersonville fell as he was “fleeing gunshots” from a sixth floor room at Hotel Blue on South Ocean Boulevard.

Myrtle Beach police said officers arrived at the hotel at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday after reports of shots being fired from inside a room.

Nobody was hurt from the gunfire, authorities said. Officers said everyone involved in the incident has been identified and the firearm has been recovered.
