Man dead, woman critical after crash in Fresno County

FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A man is dead and a woman is hospitalized in critical condition following a crash in Fresno County, California Highway Patrol said.

CHP says they responded to a traffic collision in the area of Buttonwillow and Parlier Avenues in Fresno County at around 3:30 p.m.

According to officers, a preliminary investigation indicates that a Ford truck coming northbound at a no-stop intersection collided with a Ford Focus that was traveling eastbound with a stop sign.

Officers say the Focus failed to stop at the intersection, causing the truck to collide with the passenger side until coming to a stop on the northeast corner of the intersection.

CHP says as a result of the collision, the male passenger traveling in the Focus did not survive. The driver of the Focus was sent to the hospital where she is listed in critical condition, and the driver of the truck, a man believed to be in his mid-40s, did not report any injuries.

This is an ongoing investigation. Officers say alcohol and/or drugs are not suspected at this time to be a factor in this collision.
