Man charged in shooting near Armature Works pleads not guilty

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A man who was charged in a shooting near Armature Works pleaded not guilty on Tuesday, according to a court filing.

Jaimartez Young, 19, entered a written plea of not guilty to all charges. He’s charged with first-degree attempted murder premeditated firearm discharge, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and discharging a firearm in public or on residential property.

A group of juveniles got into an argument in a bathroom before gunshots were exchanged near Armature Works on April 9, according to court documents obtained by News Channel 8 on Tuesday.

Witnesses said one of the people involved said he was going to retaliate after having water thrown on him. The documents did not make clear which person threw the water. The person left the area and walked past Ulele’s, which was seen on surveillance video, according to the affidavit.

Later, Young was seen on video near Stones Throw with a gun. He fired multiple rounds at a person who was involved in the bathroom argument, according to an affidavit.

The person who was shot at was then handed a gun with an extended magazine by someone else in the group and returned fire, according to the affidavit.

Several bystanders were hit by gunfire, including a pregnant woman who was having a meal with her husband and 8-month-old daughter. In total, three people were shot. All of them are expected to be OK.

Gabriel C. Catuy, 17, was also arrested in connection with the shooting. He will be charged as an adult.
