Man, 55, dies after being shot in West Englewood on city’s South Side, police say

CHICAGO — Chicago police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Saturday morning in the West Englewood area on the city’s South Side.

4-year-old boy found unresponsive at north suburban hotel pool, taken to hospital in serious condition, police say

According to police, a 55-year-old man was in the 6700 block of South Ashland Avenue at about 11 a.m. when he was approached by an unknown vehicle. An offender began firing shots at the man, hitting him in the body.

The victim was taken to an area hospital in grave condition, where he was pronounced dead.

A man related to the victim told WGN News his name is Clifton Boyd.

The man said Boyd was his uncle and a talented artist.

“This hurt,” said Darryl Boyd, Clifton Boyd’s nephew. “He don’t bother nobody, paint cars, bodywork, family man. This is tough.”

A co-worker of Boyd’s, who didn’t want to be identified out of fear for his safety, agreed with his nephew that Boyd was a gifted man, and the co-worker offered compassion to the Boyd family during a time of tragedy.

“Just send my condolences out to the family,” the co-worker said. “We lost a good one, good painter, good guy, good father, he’s gone now.”
