Man, 23, dead after shooting in West Ridge: CPD

CHICAGO — Police are investigating after a man was fatally shot while driving in the West Ridge neighborhood Tuesday night.

The shooting on the North Side of the city has left 23-year-old man dead and multiple vehicles damaged.

According to police a 23-year-old man was driving his black Nissan in the 6200 block of North Francisco Avenue around 10:50 p.m. when an unknown individual approached and fired multiple shots towards him.

Police said the victim tried to get away from the shooter and crashed into three vehicles on Devon Avenue before coming to a stop.

A witness told WGN News he tried to save the man’s life.

“… After a little bit a guy came over. I asked him what’s going on and he said he got shot. I got into my car for about minute or so and I called 911.”

Police said the man sustained a gunshot wound to the left side upper chest and was transported to Saint Francis Hospital in critical condition where he was later pronounced dead.

Residents in the West Ridge neighborhood told WGN News the neighborhood is typically quiet and do not understand why the shooting happened.

“You know the guy probably had a family at home, kids, people were probably expecting him,” a man said.

Police have not said if the victim was the suspected target. There is currently no one in custody and police are investigating the incident.
