Malia Obama Wore a Velvet Bow Choker — and You Can Too

She may be on her way out of the White House, headed to life as a normal teenager, but Malia Obama continues to be a trendsetter in her last few days as a first daughter. The soon-to-be Harvard freshman attended her father, President Obama’s, farewell speech Tuesday evening, dressed in a black-and-white colorblock Cinq à Sept dress with bell sleeves.

While the dress was adorable, it is one accessory Malia wore that’s got folks talking. That night, she rocked a thin black ribbon choker, an inexpensive flourish that took her look to another level.

Bow chokers are definitely trending. Malia’s own sister, Sasha, wore one to the Canada State Dinner last March. At Sunday’s Golden Globes, Michelle Williams rocked one of her own, turning the bow to the front for a cute little addition to her ensemble. Matt Lauer is also a fan. But according to Racked, it seems like Malia Obama my be becoming the sister most associated with the piece. They note that there have been lots of chokers bearing the namesake of the elder Obama sister.

Thankfully, this simple look is easy to recreate. Check below for some choker options.
