Lowndes County brothers selected for Georgia Foundation for Agriculture Scholarships

May 25—MACON — Lowndes County brothers Daniel and Stephen Peterson have been named recipients of Georgia Foundation for Agriculture (GFA) Scholarships.

Stephen is one of eight graduating high school seniors statewide selected to receive a $3,000 GFA scholarship. Two other graduating seniors were awarded $4,500 scholarships.

Daniel is one of eight rising college juniors or seniors to receive a $2,000 GFA Scholarship.

The GFA scholarships recognize deserving and outstanding college students pursuing agriculture or ag-related degrees at a college in the University System of Georgia, Berry College or Emmanuel College, or a school in the Technical College System of Georgia.

"Georgia Farm Bureau is proud to support the Georgia Foundation for Agriculture's programs," said GFA Board Chairman and GFB President Tom McCall. "The foundation offers these scholarships as an investment in the future of Georgia farming, and we're excited to see what these students can do as they move into their agricultural careers."

Stephen and Daniel are the sons of Stephanie Peterson of Valdosta. Stephen plans to study engineering at the University of Georgia this fall, while Daniel is a biological sciences major with a minor in avian biology at UGA. The Petersons — Stephanie, Daniel and Stephen — operate Blossom Bee Removal.

Stephen, a graduating senior from Lowndes High School, is a Georgia Merit Scholar and AP Scholar. He is a 4-H member, a Beta Club member and Technology Student Association member, as well as marching in the Lowndes High School Bridgemen band. He has served as teen leader for the Westside Elementary Agriculture Program since 2018 and is a three-time recipient of the Gold Community Service Award.

Daniel, a rising junior at UGA, has earned Dean's List designation for the past three semesters. He started a Blossom Bee Removal satellite business in Athens. He has served as a supervisor and manager in the UGA intramural sports program. Daniel did volunteer work in 2022 and 2023 with the Westside Elementary School Agriculture Program, assisting with animal care and performing maintenance tasks during the summers.

Instructions for applying for the 2023 GFA scholarships will be announced at www.gafoundationag.org/scholarships in January 2023.
