Loudoun United FC returns to practice after bye week

LEESBURG, Va. (DC News Now) — After three matches to kick off their 2024 regular season campaign, Loudoun United FC had their first bye week.

This week, the team has returned to practice, rested and ready to go, for their next match on Sunday vs. Birmingham Legion FC.

“When you combine six weeks of preseason plus the first three weeks, you really get a sense of who you are and what you can become,” said Loudoun United FC head coach Ryan Martin.

There is still plenty of season left for Loudoun, but the players found the early bye week to be a positive thing as they look to get back into the win column this weekend.

“It gives the boys a little bit of a break,” said forward Tommy Williamson. “We had a long preseason as well, so we’ve been going since January. It was nice to get a little break and kind of freshen up and get back into it now.”

“Coming off a loss in a performance we weren’t happy with, we can work on things on the training field and improve,” said midfielder Tommy McCabe. “When you get caught up in that week-by-week basis, preparing for opponents, you sometimes forget some of those things to improve yourself.”

Loudoun United currently has a 1-1-1 (W-D-L) record and four points, placing them in seventh in the USL eastern conference standings. Kick off for Sunday’s game at Birmingham is scheduled for 5 p.m.
