Local film finishes third at box office, showing at Enterprise theater extended

ENTERPRISE, Ala (WDHN) — A movie filmed in the Wiregrass has exceeded expectations at the box office during its opening weekend.

The film “Rancor” opened at Clark Cinema in Enterprise on Friday, March 15.

Director and Wiregrass native Jesse Frank told WDHN that “Rancor” finished third at the theater’s box office, trailing behind Dreamwork’s animated feature “Kung Fu Panda 4” and Denis Villeneuve’s blockbuster “Dune: Part 2”

Frank says they sold 336 tickets since its opening weekend, and the turnout was so great that Clark Cinemas has requested that the film be extended seven days to Thursday, March 28.

The action-thriller follows a girl who witnessed her parent’s murder, so she sets out to find the killer, but while on her journey, she discovers a terrible truth about her past and her future.

The movie’s production primarily occurred in Dothan, with a few scenes shot in Enterprise. It is comprised of actors and actresses from the tri-state area.

While the film’s theater run has been extended, “Rancor” will be available on streaming platforms beginning March 21.
