These local accounts are real, but don’t fall for their fake posts

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – Plans announced for a George P. Coleman Memorial Bridge-Tunnel to be built in record time, a race Tuesday night through the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel, news about another pregnant zoo animal and a partnership with the airport to add a Sky Lift at Norfolk Botanical Garden…

Before you go believing any of this, remember what day it is!

April Fools’ 😉

Some of the jokes this year were too good and those on the receiving end admittedly fell for them.

Greatest April Fools’ prank of all time? The story of the BBC’s ‘spaghetti trees’

New Bridge-Tunnel in Gloucester

Let’s start with Gloucester. A post from county officials Monday morning announced a $401 million project to develop the George P. Coleman Memorial Bridge-Tunnel, to be completed in 2027. The post never states it’s actually a joke. You have to click on the link for more information on the project to find that out. Want to guess where the link actually takes you?

Sky Lift at Norfolk Botanical Garden

This post from the Norfolk Botanical Garden announcing its partnership with its neighbor, Norfolk International Airport to build a Sky Lift between the two locations was met with excitement. Again, the post itself never declares it’s an April Fools’ prank.

Many of the folks who commented believed it was for real — or wished it was.

“Ok but why are the April fools ideas almost always so good that I’m thrilled for them to come to fruition.”

“WHAT A FABULOUS IDEA!!! I don’t know of any other airport around that does anything like this?!! Love it!”

“i sent this to people all excited 🤣”

No, You Can’t Run on the CBBT

Lastly, local Instagram accounts @northendrunclub and @shoredriveshuffle joined forces to get local runners excited about an opportunity to participate in an “EPIC” race through the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel.

The officials with the CBBT were quick to jump in and make sure everyone knew there was no way this would happen, posting:

ATTENTION ALL RUNNERS!
It seems that someone is trying to play an April Fool’s joke. Just to clarify, running on the CBBT is not permitted and this event advertised for April 2 is purely fictional. We apologize for any confusion caused. 🚫THERE IS NO RUNNING EVENT ON THE CBBT.🚫 Have a great April!

Paddle Board Patrol

The Manteo Police Department had a little fun on April Fools’ Day, with this post about the paddle board patrol division coming this summer!
