Livermore Falls to hold public hearing before setting sewer rates

Apr. 29—LIVERMORE FALLS — Selectmen plan to hold a public hearing at 6:30 p.m. May 7 at the Town Office prior to setting a new sewer rate that will go into effect July 1.

According to a new sewer billing policy, the board will set the rate annually from now on. The last sewer rate increase was in 2019. The current rate is a base of $75 per quarter, plus 7.1 cents per cubic foot.

Another change established a couple of years ago is for sewer users to receive one bill annually, with two payments due during the year. In addition, sewer rates will based on water consumption readings from the Livermore Falls Water District and not per unit as is currently done now.

One of the proposed scenario of sewer rates being considered is a minimum annual sewer fee of $340 will be assessed to each water meter within a structure that is connected to the town sewer system. Each water meter will be allowed up to 3,400 cubic feet of water used and would be covered by the base rate. Any amount exceeding the base rate would be charged 15 cents per cubic foot of water used.

For example, if a customer's annual water usage is determined to be 6,000 cubic feet, the sewer rate would be calculated as follows:

— Minimum use fee = $340;

— 2,600 additional cubic feet (6,000 — 3,400) multiplied by 15 cents = $390;

— Total bill = $730.
