‘Little dinosaur’: Alligator spotted hiding under car in North Port

NORTH PORT, Fla. (WFLA) — As alligator mating season gets underway in the Sunshine State, local authorities are encouraging residents to keep an eye out for unsuspecting reptiles.
The reminder comes after North Port Police stumbled upon a “little dinosaur” that was spotted hiding under the wheel of a vehicle in the Oasis community on Tuesday.

The police department shared a photo of the alligator on social media, saying, “It’s that time of year when #Alligators are on the prowl, so keep an eye out.”
The alligator was relocated, and no one was injured during the relocation process, police said.
“This little dinosaur was spotted Tuesday in the Oasis community. Officers worked to relocate it. Everyone is okay. Please don’t feed, harass, or get too close to alligators. Don’t be that person,” NPPD wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Gator sightings will be ramping up within the coming months as mating season is underway in the Sunshine State. Mating season kicks off in April and lasts until June, meaning there will be a greater chance of encountering the massive reptiles this month.
During mating season, males tend to become more aggressive. While alligator attacks are rare, residents should be vigilant near ponds and waterways, especially while walking their pets.
