Whether or not the weather is cooperative enough to start tending your garden this season, odds are you’re already planning what to plant. If you have a large garden, planters might not be on your wishlist this year, but Aldi’s newest wooden raised planter might change your mind. And if you want to create your own little garden on your back porch, this planter is perfect for that. Plus, it looks so similar to a Pottery Barn style that’s three times the price.

Aldi’s upcoming Aldi Finds for the week of April 10 through April 16, 2024, features plenty of gardening tools and accessories that make sense this time of year. They have a $5 12-inch self-watering planter, $13 plant stands and so much more. Included in this week’s Aldi Finds is the Belavi Wooden Raised Planter for $39.99. It comes in a natural wood finish—made from FSC Certified Chinese Fir—and has metal covers on each leg for support.

Aldi’s site reports that this wooden planter can hold up to 220 lbs, which is good if you’re going to be ambitious with your raised garden. It’s also a decent size, measuring 33.1 inches long, 16.3 inches wide and 31.7 inches tall. When you buy the planter, it comes with a plastic liner and drainage holes “to allow for effective watering.”

While there are no reviews (because it’s Aldi), I actually bought this planter last year and it’s still holding up well after being outside all year. My partner did use a wood sealer to make it a bit more waterproof, which we’d highly recommend. And as stated at the top, it’s a great thing to have if you live in an apartment for a contained, mini garden, which is how we’re using it.

Considering the good quality of Aldi’s Wooden Raised Planter, it’s interesting to compare it to higher-end brands like Pottery Barn. They have a very similar planter for $149 called the Cedar Garden Bed. It’s nearly the same size too, measuring 30.75 inches long, 23 inches wide and 22 inches tall. It’s made with 100% FSC-certified cedar wood, has a natural finish and also comes with a liner and drainage holes.

If you want something similar to Aldi’s planter, but can’t make it to the popular grocery store the week of April 10, Walmart has a similar product as well for only $10 more. For $49, Walmart’s Expert Gardener 2ft high Natural Wood Small Elevated Garden Bed is a pretty good lookalike item to Aldi’s. It’s made with a “natural wood” and also comes with a liner and drainage holes. It measures 2.5 ft long, 1.5 ft wide and 2 ft tall, which is about 30 inches long, 18 inches wide and 24 inches tall.

So if you want an elevated garden planter this season, and one that holds up and looks high-end, Aldi’s Belavi Wooden Raised Planter is a good choice. But there are some other great options out there if you can't make it to the store in time.
