Letter: Former VP Mike Pence shows leadership, rejects Trump

Mike Pence did the right thing on January 6, 2021, when he defied Trump’s call for him to reject the electoral votes of the American people, and when Pence presided over the electoral vote count as he was bound to do by the Constitution. I admire him for that, at the risk of his own life.

I also admire his recent refusal to endorse Donald Trump for president, because Trump is not devoted to conservative principles as much as Trump is devoted to himself, and whichever whim he chooses on a particular day.

Trump defended the mob that attacked Congress on January 6, 2021, and he also flip-flopped on the issue of Tik Tok.

Mike Pence is proof that conservatives do not all blindly rally around Trump, and many of them see Trump correctly as an enemy of the American Constitution and of international law, with Trump’s encouragement of dictator Vladmir Putin and Putin’s aggression in Ukraine. Trump would love to become the Putin of America.

We need more like Mike Pence who reject him.
