Who let the dogs in? Seven canines put on the dog at Colony fundraiser for animal rescue

Palm Beach's Colony Hotel has always been dog-friendly.

But for one day, it went totally to the dogs. In a good way.

The Pink Paradise was the setting for Happy Tails, the annual spring fundraiser of the Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League.

The event took place April 11.

Callie Baker Holt, Emilia Pfeifler and Stephanie Shafran were chairwomen for Happy Tails, which began in the East Garden with signature cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, a silent auction and seven fluffed, curled and coiffed dogs ready to be adopted.

As the sun set, guests move to the Coral Room ― set up in bistro style with a mix of chairs, hightops and curved settees, and tables centered with lush floral arrangements and woven raffia dogs ― for remarks from CEO Sue Berry.

“This is a fun, vibrant evening filled with support and love for our mission,” said Berry. "Because of our donors, Peggy Adams has one of the finest shelter veterinary teams in the state, and we can respond when other shelters reach out in times of need. In the past year, we were able to answer the call for over 35,000 animals in one way or another through our various programs, thanks to the support of our community.”

The night continued with dinner and dessert from various food stations ringing the room, and music.

More than 150 people attended, including Pauline Pitt and Jerry Seay, Denise and Dan Hanley, Arlette Gordon and Stan Collemer, Don Burns and Michael Lazanich, Jackie Drake and Bill Beadleston, Mish Tworkowski, Kim and Greg Dryer, Betsy and Wally Turner, Kate Gubelman, Dani Moore, Tom Quick, Jennifer Garrigues, Diane and Tom Smith, Lesly Smith, Electra Toub and Peter Soros, Hillary Thomas and Reid Boren, and Jean Shafiroff.

Oh, and seven dogs.

Proceeds from the event, more than $500,000, assist the Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League in its mission to provide critical services to more than 35,000 animals each year and to expand that lifesaving work in Palm Beach County through collaborations with local organizations.
