At least 50 people detained at FIT protest: NYPD

CHELSEA, Manhattan (PIX11) – At least 50 people were detained early Wednesday morning during a protest at the Fashion Institute of Technology, according to the NYPD.

The NYPD said 41 people were issued a criminal court summons, while five were issued desk appearance tickets. At least four others are still being processed, according to authorities.

The arrests come amid pro-Palestine protests taking place across college campuses in the U.S.

Columbia University recently canceled its university-wide graduation ceremony as a result of the protests. There have been hundreds of arrests at the Columbia protests alone, according to the NYPD.

Students have been calling on schools to divest from companies that support Israel.
