Leander water restrictions reduced after underwater pipe replacement

LEANDER, Texas (KXAN) — A pipe replacement that started in February wrapped up on schedule, according to Leander’s mayor, Christine DeLisle. The fix improved the reliability of a pipeline that’s been repaired three times in recent history.

The city is now under Phase Two water restrictions which permit outdoor watering with irrigation systems and sprinklers once per week.

The Brushy Creek Regional Utility Authority maintains the replaced pipe, and crews have installed 1,400 feet of new line over the last few months.

The BCRUA and City of Leander said the replacement would reduce Leander’s ability to treat water to just one water treatment facility.

DeLisle said consumers had to keep their water consumption below a certain amount to avoid supply issues, leading to the city enforcing Phase Four water restrictions.

Those measures forbid all outdoor watering.

DeLisle said water customers complied with those restrictions fabulously.

“That really was all that was needed. We know that when those irrigation systems are off, our water use is really, really low. We didn’t even come close this time around to going over our limit,” DeLisle said.
