Las Vegas driver accused in fatal DUI crash has 2nd open DUI case

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A man accused of driving impaired and colliding with a person in the road, killing them, has a second open DUI case, the 8 News Now Investigators have learned.

Omar Gallegos, 28, faces a DUI charge in Las Vegas Justice Court for the Sunday crash on Pecos Road near Maule Avenue in the southeast Las Vegas valley, records said. While the pedestrian died, Gallegos does not face a charge of DUI resulting in death.

The pedestrian, a 35-year-old man, was crossing Pecos Road outside of a marked crosswalk at the time of the crash, police said. Gallegos stayed at the crime site and showed signs of impairment, police said.

Gallegos faces a second DUI charge for a January incident, Las Vegas Municipal Court records said. It was unclear what led to that charge, though he posted $2,115 bail.

A spokesperson for the court said the city attorney had not screened or received the case of of Monday.

Gallegos posted a surety bond in his second DUI case in Las Vegas Justice Court and was due to return in August. The details of what led to his arrest, other than the crash and his suspected impairment, were not known as of Monday afternoon.

In Nevada, a DUI is considered a misdemeanor until a person’s third DUI conviction within seven years.

A booking photo for Gallegos was not immediately available.
