1 dead after officer-involved shooting in Durand: MSP

Update: The suspect has been identified as 43-year-old Daniel Silver.

DURAND, Mich. (WLNS) — A suspect is dead following a shooting involving a Shiawassee County Deputy Saturday afternoon, Michigan State Police Third District has confirmed.

The shooting happened during a traffic stop near 700 S. Oak Street in Durand, Shiawassee County, “and resulted in the suspect driver’s death,” MSP said in the social media post later Saturday evening.

“Please avoid the area while the investigation continues,” MSP went on to say in the post.

6 News was on the scene after the shooting. Near the intersection of Oak and John streets, the sheriff’s office had blocked off the scene with yellow tape.

Reporter McKoy Scribner observed about seven police vehicles. In addition to the sheriff’s office, Michigan State Police, Owosso Police Department and Durand Police Department were there.

Police were blocking side streets near the area that has been taped off.

The shooting is under investigation by MSP Third District Special Investigation Section, MSP Crime Lab, MSP Aviation, MSP Traffic Crash Reconstruction and Flint Post personnel.
