KEY ACTION: Appointed a new board member.

DISCUSSION: The board appointed and swore in new board member David Barrett to serve out Derrick Bailey’s term. Bailey resigned in March. Barrett will serve through December 31, 2025.

Barrett works for the Tarian Group as senior director of operations. He and his wife Deanna moved to Lake Township in May 1997. The couple have two adult children and one in high school.

“I have always supported the school district and want to be a part of it and contribute to the strategic direction the district is moving towards," Barrett said.

He added that he plans on running for the spot at the end of the term.

Barrett said he wants to be a "fresh perspective to support our two greatest assets: our faculty and staff and our students. I look forward to having the opportunity to be part of the BOE and to work to keep Lake the finest district in Stark County.”

OTHER ACTIONS:

After returning from an executive session, the board ratified a three-year agreement with the Lake Local Elementary School certified staff which will be in effect from July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2027.  The staff will receive a 2% raise for each year of the contract. Benefits will remain the same.

“We appreciate the efforts that came from both sides of the table," board President Adam Doane said.
