Lafayette hosts 21st Annual Lineworkers Rodeo

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY)– At the Public Power Lineworkers Rodeo, linemen from all across the country competed in a series of challenges that showcased their abilities and what they do on the job every day.

A total of 17 states competed in the rodeo, consisting of journeymen and apprentices on at least 200 different teams. Manger of CPS energy in San Antonio, Gilbert Brown, said while being a lineman can be dangerous for anyone, it can also be the greatest job in life.

“It’s about fellowship, brotherhood, it’s just something I really enjoy doing,” Byron said.

Byron said he wants the citizens of Lafayette to see firsthand what it takes to keep communities powered and connected.

“I want their citizens to come see what all the linemen at other municipalities do all around the nation,” Byron said.
