Kingsville lawn sale raises money for library

May 20—KINGSVILLE — Hundreds of people continued a tradition dating back almost half a century on Saturday during the Kingsville Lawn Sale.

The 48th edition of the event raised money for the Kingsville Public Library and provided friends, neighbors and out-of-town visitors a place to chat and look for a bargain, eat some tasty food, purchase books, and listen to some music.

Beth Vendetti, public services and acquisitions manager for the library, said the sale helps pay for adult and children's programming and the library. The library also sponsored a large book sale in the Simak Welcome Center.

In addition to a wide variety of vendors with offerings ranging from woodworking to stuffed animals, there were also church organizations and social service groups on site to share information about resources available to area residents.

Head Start was one group attending the lawn sale to make people aware of their services. Tammy Williams, a child advocate for Ashtabula County Community Action Head Start, said there was good interaction with those who stopped and inquired about services.

A wide variety of books were available in the Simak Welcome Center, ranging from biographies to science fiction to religion.

Many visitors come back year, after year, some even planning vacations around the event, according to visitors statements about the event.
