Kathy Steiner: 'Community Cheerleaders' focus of Jamestown Sun annual edition

Mar. 30—Every community needs "cheerleaders," people who not only volunteer for a cause but go above and beyond to do more for it.

Jamestown is fortunate to have many such "Community Cheerleaders," and today we're featuring a few of them in The Jamestown Sun's annual Progress Edition.

"Community Cheerleaders" featured in the edition are people who have a passion for a certain cause and volunteer in some way that benefits the greater community. These "Cheerleaders" are working to make a difference in our community.

Today's Progress Edition features Eileen Lisko, Matt Perkins, Lynn Lambrecht, Angela Vigil, Barb Lang, Pat Stockert, Brian Lunde, Tara Kapp, Dean Haas, Colin Wegenast, CJ Hager, Amanda Thrift, Shirley Jackson, Kris Meidinger, Sheila Marsalek, John Greenwood, Don Wegner and Haley Wolf.

Learn more about these people, why they work to make a difference and those causes that matter so much to them in the Progress Edition.

"Cheerleaders" work in a range of areas in our community to advance causes that better the lives of people, in some cases not only here but elsewhere in the world.

The cheerleaders we're featuring are working to improve ballpark facilities and enhance the downtown. They promote businesses and tourism and help children in ways that include education, hunger and fun. They support hospice, promote donating blood and provide support to people after the loss of a loved one. They care for dogs and cats waiting for their forever home, advocate for connected bike trails in the city and approve grants that help other organizations.

Many people in our community volunteer, stepping up because of their desire to help others in some way. All of these volunteer "community cheerleaders" make a difference and are important to our community.

Today's annual Progress Edition is a 44-page special supplement to The Jamestown Sun featuring stories on those cheerleaders as well as the businesses and organizations that supported this special project with advertising. Some of those businesses and organizations share how they are "cheerleaders" for the community as well. Without their advertising support, this special section would not be possible.
