Janelle Stelson wins Pennsylvania 10th District primary, AP projects

(WHTM) — Former television news anchor Janelle Stelson will face incumbent Republican Congressman Scott Perry in the November general election.

Stelson defeated Harrisburg City Councilwoman Shamaine Daniels, Carlisle educator Rick Coplen, former WITF executive and lifelong Harrisburg resident Blake Lynch, Top Gun pilot Mike O’Brien, and Pennsylvania businessman John Broadhurst in the April 23 Democratic primary.

“Thank you to those of you who voted for me. I will spend the next six months working hard to make you proud. I am reaching out to Democrats, Independents, and Republicans who Congressman Perry has ignored and disrespected, to make the case for commonsense problem-solving, instead of extremism and chaos,” said Stelson.

Stelson had made defeating Perry a centerpiece of her campaign, pledging to move from Lancaster County into the 10th District to run against the seven-term Congressman.

“For far too long, Scott Perry has put his extremist agenda above the needs of Dauphin, York, and Cumberland Counties,” says Stelson’s website.

After Stelson’s win was projected, Perry said, “Today, Voters across the 10th Congressional District had their voices heard, and I’m honored once again to have earned the overwhelming support of Republicans throughout our District.  This November, Voters across south-central Pennsylvania have a clear choice:  do you continue to endure President Biden’s destructive and weak policies that have led to the highest Cost-of-Living in 40 years, open borders that allow unprecedented crime to poison our communities with no accountability, and foreign policy failures that have weakened and shamed our Nation – or do you support fiscally responsible policies that empower hardworking Americans and small businesses, a secure border, and a powerful National defense? Our neighbors know me, they know I fight tirelessly for them, and they know I do what I said I would – which is fiercely defend their freedoms, their financial well-being, and their safety and security.  My opponent seeks to continue the burden of the destructive Biden Agenda on the people of the 10th Congressional District, while refusing to even move to the district – amongst her other radical Leftist ideologies.  I look forward to once again earning the support of Voters of the 10th Congressional District as we fight to regain a stronger America and the growth, strength, and prosperity she once knew.”

As of April 3, Stelson’s campaign said they had more than $165,000 cash on hand; Perry’s campaign reported more than $2 million in donations and over $500,000 on hand.

Perry, who once chaired the House Freedom Caucus, made national headlines for his alleged connections to attempts to overturn the 2020 election and the January 6 insurrection. He was cited more than 50 times in a Senate Judiciary report released in October 2021 outlining Donald Trump’s effort to overturn the election results.

In August 2022 Perry disclosed that his cellphone was briefly seized by the FBI on a search warrant, saying the action was “banana republic tactics.”
