Jamestown man accused of trapping, choking woman, drug possession

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Jamestown man was charged with criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation and criminal possession of a controlled substance, among four other charges, Wednesday following a response to a domestic dispute in the early morning.

22-year-old Wilfredo Rivera-Vasquez of Jamestown allegedly trapped and choked a female victim just before 5:40 Wednesday morning. When officers arrived, they say Rivera-Vasquez lied about his name and age as he had warrants out for him from Fredonia police and the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s office.

Jamestown officers performed a search and claimed to have found 56.7 grams of cocaine, cash, lorazepam pills and a digital scale in his possession.

Rivera-Vasquez is currently housed in the Jamestown City Jail pending arraignment and is charged with the following:

  • one count, criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation

  • one count, second-degree unlawful imprisonment

  • one count, second-degree criminal impersonation

  • two counts, third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance

  • one count, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance

  • one count, second-degree criminally using drug paraphernalia
