‘This is an intimate space’: A look at Diddy’s exclusive Miami Beach neighborhood

A late Monday afternoon shocker — even for 305ers: Two of Sean Combs’ homes were raided by federal agents as part of an investigation into numerous sexual misconduct allegations against the rapper.

One of them was in Los Angeles and the other in Miami Beach, on Star Island, one of the most exclusive communities in the country.

Not only is Star Island private, pristine and stunning, it has history. Completed in 1922 by the Army Corps of Engineers by dredging sand in Biscayne Bay, the man-made parcel of land was initially owned by developer Carl Fisher. Soon after famed architect Walter De Garmo built the first mansion, the global elite began to sit up and take notice. (The 1924 Mediterranean Revival beauty was sold in 2021 for a cool $39 million.)

Combs is a veteran of the enclave, having owned 2 Star Island for over two decades. The music mogul’s seven bedroom, eight bathroom waterfront crib was built in 2002. He bought it the following year via an LLC for $14.5 million, according to Miami-Dade property records.

In July 2021, Combs spent $35 million for the adjoining place, 1 Star Island, previously owned by local superstars Gloria and Emilio Estefan. That is the one that got the dramatic, unexpected visit.

Miami Herald photographs show Monday’s chaotic scene at the 1.34 acre compound, with cops and feds everywhere; lit up patrol cars parked out front; and a fancy metal gate damaged.

This was an unusual sight for this tidy, lush paradise along the MacArthur Causeway that’s only accessible by a 24-hour guarded bridge.

Past and present high-wattage residents include Shaquille O’Neal, Rosie O’Donnell, Don Johnson, Enrique Iglesias, Real Housewives of Miami’s Lenny Hochstein, and most recently, Rick Ross, who dropped $35 million last summer for a 12,400-square-footer there.

“There is only one Star Island, and we know the buyer will be so happy with his new residence on the much-sought-after island,” Kimberly Knausz, global advisor at ONE Sotheby’s International Realty, told the Robb Report after Ross’ purchase.

When Ross was moving in last July, he was welcomed by none other than Combs, who presented his pal with a golf cart as a housewarming gift.

On Instagram, the two neighbors documented their amusing exchange, which soon went viral.

Along with the mini motorized vehicle, Diddy ironically gave the Carol City native some pointers about how to behave in the ‘hood.

“This is an intimate space,” Diddy told the Carol City native in the video. “I’m not playing with you, Rozay: no f--ing parties, no pool parties. I’m the head of the [committee], I don’t do none of that s--t!”

But in a lawsuit filed a month before the raid, music producer Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones accuses Diddy and his associates of throwing a number of wild parties there.

In the lawsuit filed in U.S. federal court for the southern district of New York, Jones alleges he was sexually abused at Combs’ gatherings, many of which were attended by strip club workers.

And Combs’ neighbors, who did not reveal their names, told the Miami Herald that the Bad Boy Records founder hosted frequent out of control soirees, with guests coming and going at all hours.

It’s hardly a secret that the 54-year-old hip hopper enjoys playing host. His Ciroc vodka-fueled blowouts are practically stuff of legend, attended by such pals as Mary J. Blige, Fat Joe and Meek Mill.

As for where Diddy chose to lay his head while in town, experts don’t believe the storied island, with only about three dozen residences, will suffer any fallout.

“When I think of Star Island, I don’t necessarily think of Diddy,” a real estate insider told the Miami Herald on the condition of anonymity.

The individual cites other respected residents like hedge fund billionaire Ken Griffin, who owns a chunk of the island’s lots. (Last year, the Citadel founder bought back a one-acre property for $45.5 million that Alex Rodriguez had snatched up while still engaged to Jennifer Lopez.)

“It’s sad and shocking,” the expert added. “But right now, the case is just a lot of speculation, and I think the island can withstand this.”
