According to a release from the Storytelling Center, Carson comes to Jonesborough from Washington D.C. He is a Chicago native and has worked with public and nonprofit organizations in the U.S. and abroad.

He holds a master’s degree in public administration from Harvard University, an MBA from Clark Atlanta University, and a certificate in nonprofit management from Standford University’s Social Innovation Review.

“Michael comes to ISC with exceptional fundraising, planning, and executive management skills,” said Lynda Harris, chair of ISC’s Board of Directors. “We’re excited for him to lead ISC into its next phase of growth, expanding our institutional reach while honoring storytelling’s powerful roots.”

Carson will replace Kiran Singh Sirah, who resigned to spend more time with family in the United Kingdom after holding the position for more than a decade.

“I grew up hearing stories about life in East Tennessee,” Carson said. “That helped provide a foundational zeal for learning that guided me to pursue a career in international affairs. I look forward to developing ISC’s institutional partnerships near and far to expand its local and global impact.”

Carson will assume the new role in mid-April.
