Inside Louisville's 1865 Italian-style farmhouse and historic Montessori school

A Louisville family is parting with the 1865 farmhouse and private school it owned for more than a half-century in the Hayfield Dundee neighborhood.

The 2.5 acre property, listed for sale at $2.5 million, hosts the Hayfield Montessori School, which will be closing its doors for the final time this summer. Though small, the school was owned by the same family dating back to its inception in 1967. Principal Aline Abell is the daughter of the school's founders, Leo and Monique Denoncourt.

Generations of families lived in the house next to the where the school sits, including the Denoncourts. For those who prefer a classic style, much of the 19th century Italian design remains preserved throughout the 4-bedroom, 3-bath home.

Together, the house and school buildings make up 11,522 square feet, according to Kentucky Select Properties.

There are multiple potential uses for a new property owner, as they could continue to offer educational programming inside the school buildings, or customize the space for their commercial or residential needs. There is also a large backyard a property owner could fill up with some outdoor amenities. The yard served as a play area for Hayfield Montessori students.
