HUTCHINSON, Kan. (KSNW) – Hutchinson Public Schools is hosting a series of public engagement meetings this month to determine district facility priorities.

According to HPS, each session includes a presentation of committee findings, an analysis of the current facilities status, identified areas for improvement, and concepts to develop a comprehensive District Facilities Plan that aligns with the District’s objectives.

“While this started a little bit about facilities, you know, kudos to our community group who really said, ‘Let’s just not talk about facilities. Let’s talk about our community.’ And ‘What does our community want? What do we need?’ And ‘How do we want to build the best school district that we possibly can in Reno County?'” HPS Superintendent Dawn Johnson said.

After the committee meetings, all the information will be presented to the USD 308 Board of Education in May, along with a comprehensive plan.

Each session is free to attend and open to the public.

The first meeting was held on April 2 where the topic was centered on preparation for kindergarten and high school.

“Kindergarten readiness, what are we doing to make sure our students are ready for kindergarten so it’s a focus on early learning education, and then we really want to talk about, you know, that return on investment for students to get ready for high school and so we’re focusing on our middle school aspects,” said Johnson.
