Hollyoaks star Annabelle Davis has paid tribute to her mother in an emotional statement, following her death last month.

Samantha Davis, the wife of Star Wars actor Warwick Davis, died aged 53 on March 24, with her passing being announced in a statement from her husband.

The couple, who wed in 1991, share children Annabelle and son Harrison who followed their father into acting, with Annabelle appearing in the Channel 4 soap as Lacey Lloyd. They sadly lost their first two babies, Lloyd in 1991 and another baby who was stillborn.

Following Samantha's death, her children said: "Her love and happiness carried us through our whole lives. Mum is our best friend and we're honoured to have received a love like hers."

Samantha co-founded the dwarfism charity Little People UK in 2012, which aims to "offer friendship and support to people with dwarfism, their families and friends, and helping build a positive future for those individuals".

She also joined her husband in the Harry Potter series, where she played a goblin in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part Two, alongside Warwick who appeared in the popular wizarding franchise as Professor Filius Flitwick.

In a statement shared with the BBC, Warwick said his wife's death "left a huge hole in our lives as a family" and that he "misses her hugs".

He described Samantha, whom he met on the set of George Lucas film Willow in 1988, as his "most trusted confidant and an ardent supporter of everything I did in my career".

"She was a unique character, always seeing the sunny side of life, she had a wicked sense of humour and always laughed at my bad jokes," he continued. "With her by my side, I was sure I could achieve anything, it was like having a superpower.

"Without Sammy, there would have been no Tenable quiz show, no Willow series. No Idiot Abroad series 3."

He said that Samantha persuaded Ricky Gervais to include Warwick in the Karl Pilkington travel series, saying she was "passionate about helping people, without judgment".

"She had time for everyone and a genuine listening ear," he concluded.
